Polio Intervention in Nigeria 4

This is one fact that is long-termed. There are no good roads or no roads at all to reach the place of supervision.

Boshe did not get to his designated ward in one of the days during a round. While crossing the river, he fell into it and got soaked. His supervision on this day was cancelled.

I could also recall one of the times I went on supervision and all I saw were rocks and mountains. Where is the road? I asked.

How can we reach the people over there?

More hands on deck please.

The in-effectiveness of the team members could also drag the intervention back.

Salome Solomon, then, but now Salome Sunday, and I have had the experience of a team pouring away the vaccine while recording its administration in paper

Now, this is wickedness to humans.  How can this be reconciled? Things of this nature needs to be articulately checked. These are people from that same ward trusted upon to carry out a future saving assignment.

Polio can be fought successfully in Nigeria if these factors are put in check.

Need more facts? Don’t go away!

The second reason for the unending fight against polio in Nigeria is the on-going insurgencies in the country.

I remember the day the Abuja EOC was to be commissioned.  That was the same day a team of immunizers were bombed to death   by people driving in keke napep in one of the well renowned northern states. Of-course, the commissioning was postponed.

The insurgencies delay activities as well as displaces families while causing them to miss several rounds of immunization.

The question is how and when did the insurgence begin?
